Daawat-E-Ishq Review: Delicious Feast Of Love
Tez Gulrez meets Taru and their love story is held together by the Nawabi menu! It is a very refreshing love story right from the Yash Raj kitchen, which will make you fall in love with food and of course the sweet characters.
A very quirky take on the deep-rooted social vice of Dowry, the film will make you see the other side of things!
Gullu (Parineeti) is an ambitious girl and doesn’t want to be sacrificed at the hands of blood-sucking dowry-mongers. So in order to fulfill her dream to become a shoe designer, Gullu plans to con one such dowry-fascinated man, but in doing so loses her heart to the man. Taru (Aditya) is a man any girl would fall at feet for. He doesn’t support dowry but just wants to be loved. And in turn, becomes the shikar of Gullu’s plans. What follows next is “Daawat-E-Ishq”!
The feast of love depicted in the film will leave your mouth watered with visual delight. The flavors of Hyderabad and Lucknow are served on the platter and become an inherent part of the film’s storyline. They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but don’t be mistaken; even that is the way to a girl’s heart. (Mind it! To the heart of a girl who loves to eat!)
Star Performances:
Parineeti Chopra since her debut has eyes set upon her and she impresses all by her sincere and honest acting skills. Fitting easily in the shoes of Gulrez, Pari not only picks up the accent and mannerisms of a Hyderabadi girl, but even shines too bright in the avatar. Gullu is Indian girl, who dreams of her dreams becoming true, but doesn’t wait for any man to fulfill them for her. She believes in carving her own niche. Pari has time and again given us such sweet and loving girl-next-door roles,that now it becomes almost a ritual to see her like that. Next time we wouldn’t mind some hard-hitting roles from her, as we know she will deliver them with ultimate conviction too.
The man who had all swooning after Aashiqui 2, Aditya Roy Kapoor, delivers a very earnest and humbling performance. Tariq is that Indian husband material girls are constantly on the hunt for. Not only does he have a mouth-watering platter and skills in the kitchen, but in the matters of the heart too his ‘pyaar ka tadka’ is very enriching. For him money and beauty become secondary, but heart comes first. And Aditya Roy Kapur gives a very adorable performance via Taru. You will surely love him!
Anupam Kher has given us such a myriad of roles and brilliant performances, that whatever you expect from him, he always manages to live up to them. In the role of a father, who just wishes to get his daughter married off, and has managed to garner dowry for his daughter by being an honest clerk in High Court; Anupam Kher pours his acting prowess in a very easy and delicate manner. He loves his daughter and ultimately joins in her ‘con-quest’ after much dilapidation.
Technicalities:
Habib Faisal has over the time, given us much cherished and lovely stories. And with Daawat-E-Ishq, he has done that yet again. Seldom are stories in Bollywood centered upon food mainly, despite it being one of the most important factors via which hearts connect. With Daawat-E-Ishq’s hatke take on that, one such story comes alive on the celluloid. In terms of storyline, Habib has given a film which is nice but a little predictable. The way Taru forgave Gullu’s deception in an instant, was a little unlike real life and even there were parts of the story that didn’t fit in. But then again, it is Bollywood. A little imagination running wild is acceptable.
The soothing soundtrack is infused with the film and has left a mark too. Sonu Nigam’s Mannat will linger for quite some time in the subconscious and the quirky tracks add more to the fun.
I quite liked the opening credits of the movie, which was quite innovative and set the tone right from Take One!
